About Propanolol

Synonyms: Inderal, Detensol, Novopranol It is in the form of propanolol Hydrochloride. Propranolol is a beta- adrenergic blocking agent that blocks the action of the sympathetic nervous system, a portion of the involuntary nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system stimulates the pace of the heart beat by blocking the action of these nerves thus reducing the heart rate and becomes useful in treating abnormally rapid heart rhythms, reduces the force of heart muscle contraction and lowers blood pressure. By reducing the heart rate and the force of muscle contraction, propranolol reduces heart muscle oxygen demand. Since angina or chest pain occurs when oxygen demand of the heart exceeds supply, propranolol is helpful in treating angina.

Indications:

Propranolol can be used for hypertension, angina, anxiety, migraine, essential tremor, arrhythmias, anxiety tachycardia, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and thyrotoxicosis

How to take Propanolol

For hypertension 80mg twice daily depending to response to drug. For angina, anxiety, migraine and essential tremor 40mg twice to trice daily. For arrhythmias, anxiety tachycardia, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, thyrotoxicosis 10-40mg 3 to 4 times daily. Please see label. For more detailed information please consult specialist. Propanolol Precautions:

Do not violate instructions. Alters alertness. Smoking is prohibited when taking the drug because it decreases serum level and it interferes drug clearance. Do not stop abruptly, hypertension, myocardial ischemia or cardiac arrhythmias may precipitate. Report side effects such as rashes, abnormal bleeding, unusual crying, of feeling of depression.
